Coming home

The Fair Times printed the following poem on July 27 - great Neshoba County Fair prose.

Coming Home
by Rebecca Perry

I long for a place of bluegrass memories...

Where porch swings sway with red dirt politics
And people relax in beer battered heat
Where there are fried chicken dinners
And horse race winners
And bed-bunked cabins consume Happy Hollow streets.

Where late night dances and Grandstand romances
Lead to race track walks and all nighter talks
And whisky flavored fist fights under Pavilion lights
Join red-footed children singing gospel delights.

Where lemonade stands and oldies rock bands
Call for air brush tattoos and The Fair Times news.
Where Beverly Hills provides gin rummy thrills
And Vernon Brothers nights help us all sleep tight.

This is Home Sweet Home.

Rebecca Perry of Jackson is the daughter of Pete Perry and Alice Perry and the granddaughter of Lallah Perry, formerly of Philadelphia and now of Jackson, and the late Dick Perry.
